Is this pine bark or pine wood?
I bought 10 bags of this mulch thinking that it was pure pine bark. It seems to me that it is ground up wood as there are many large wood chunks in the bags. Can you clarify please?

Horrible mulch.
I purchased 9 bags of black mulch however, what I wasn't aware of was the mulch is full of unground chunks of old lumber and trash. Furthermore, the supposedly black mulch was moldy and lacked consistent color. Scotts, you should be ashamed!

Co-packer Quality Assurance is horrible
I bought this product 2 weeks ago at Lowes and ran short and needed a couple bags and purchased this
at Lowe's last week.
I mulched an area by the pool with the original purchase. The mulch was not like past Scott's mulch - it was stringy, and the color was faded in the bag. The next two bags were back to the normal Scott's mulch - so now I have two big spots that show up in the mulched area. Apparently, there are no Quality Assurance procedures in place for Scott's Best !!!

Junky mulch
The bag says "Scotts Best." I hate to see what "Scotts Worst" is. I have bought this product before but was so disappointed by all of the junk and foreign matter included in the bark. There were so many pieces plastic, condiment packages, and plastic tubing! It took me quite a bit of time to pick out all the junk. Probably more than spreading the mulch! Also, some of the pieces of mulch were gigantic! Some of the bark was moldy. The only positive thing I can say is I like the color.

Not mulch
Just put this in my garden bed and I am so disappointed. I splurge because Scott’s is usually the best. About 1/3 of my bag are tree branches and not small pieces of mulch. Some pieces are as long as my forearm!

Classic Black- less black, more mold
What the heck is going on with this mulch? Three years ago was pretty nice product. Last year was less color. Now...Quality is gone. It used to be a nice, deep, dark black. Now it looks like a sun bleached black. And the white mold... what a mess. Big chunks, the occasional mulched water bottle... what happened to your brand?? I thought (after I spread the 21 bags and looked it over) the sun might kill the white mold after a few days- but nope. Turned into a mulch job that is far from uniform with white patches and far from the nice dark color it used to be.

Color change with Scott’s Deep Forest Brown.
I purchased three pallets of Scott’s Deep Forrest brown and was supprised to find a distinctly different color (much darker and gray when dry) in a large number of bags. All the bags were labeled as Scott’s Deep Forest Brown. What gives?

Brown is not consistent
Have used 'deep forest brown' for years but this year, 2024, the color has changed and it is much darker than previous years so it does not look great when just trying to top up what I already have. The areas I have mulched are now two tone.

I like the product but when buying the mulch at same vendor on different days from different pallets the mulch is not the same. Some bags will be a finer mulch and other bags will be in larger chunks. Id rather for it to be fine. Same mulch deep forest brown.

Good quality mulch as far as the makeup but a big disappointment that it was not black after a rainstorm. It ended up as a brown mix. The cost is one thing but the darn time putting it down

Wary
I'm wary. A worker at Lowes recommend this to me for.around my vegetables. I bought several bags, but now am reading terrible things about wood mulch around vegetable gardens. How is this wood mulch any better than others? Is the color guard technology leaching into.my garden? Can it be composted next year below the soil? I'm really worried.

Not Happy
I put down 12 bags of Nature Scape Enhanced mulch. Each bag has an amount of white powder in it. It looks horrible in my garden. Won't use this product again.

Mold Issues Some Bags
Recent bought 8 bags at Lowe's of which 4 bags were molded, white, and not the red they should be. Lowe's told me bring them back to store. I advise Lowe's I will discontinue using Lowe's. Never had this issue before but at$4.5 a bag with 1 year guarantee for color fast did not make out the bag before it was bad.

Color bled within a few days
I purchased about 40 bags to put around shrubs in the front and back of my home.
I got the dark red color and when I put it down it looked great. Made everything look better.
I didn't water for a few days as it suggested on web site.
After a week I watered and the next day the color was totally faded. I called for a refund, but didn't keep my receipts so I couldn't get one. I can't blame Scotts for not refunding my money without proof that I actually purchased it.
But I do wish they did a better job of adding coloring that didn't wash out so quickly.
Look for other alternatives.

color not continuous throughout bag
I bought 12 bags of the Sierra Red which I purchased last year and loved. This year over half of the bags I purchased were red until I dumped out the bag and the mulch in the middle was brown and covered in white spots. It also had a very strong odor. Unfortunately this year's mulch was not as satisfactory as the mulch I bought last year.

Overpriced
1.5 sqft bag of Overpriced, chucks, mold, debris, mulch. Thought I would give the higher priced a shot for my walk way. The $2 bags for 2sqft was much better quality. Never again, sad quality control. It was a slap in the face, let’s be real it’s mulch but you get way less for way more cost.

Different textures
I purchased 12 bags of the black mulch and when I opened them, they were the more chunky style. I needed six more bags and five out of the six bags were finely shredded and I know it was all from the same pallet.

Different color each bag
Please do not buy this product unless you do not care about color and shapes this product has.
I bought 35 bags of red mulch to do decor my house, None of the bags has the same color. Different shades of RED and also some are very shredded and others totally not shredded.
Frustrating

Product standard is poor
I have purchased the red product for over 20 years. I recently purchased 8 bags and the new color is no different than the mulch I had down last year. For the past 4 years I would wait and purchase once off sale thinking the product had been sitting in the warehouse and trying different stores Scott color enhanced mulch is no longer up to standard I'm choosing a different product

color faded in 24 hours from
Disappointed in the color fading black mulch
I was so excited to finally get black mulch for my beds and adding some curb appeal. Unfortunately within 24 hours it was no longer black and was fading to brown. I was disappointed to say the least. As the week went on it is now a dull grayish color with brownish areas of mulch. Out of 13 bags there were 3 large pieces of metal, it looks like a cap of some kind. Regardless I am glad that it was visible and we found it instead of the bottom of the kids feet. I have photos of the mulch on day one and day 2 and 3. Lowes was very intrigued by this and suggest I contact the company.

Faded with in two weeks.
Faded with in two weeks. Very disappointed. I made sure to lay all this down a good week before a rain. It was placed during the first week of June, which wasn’t too hot yet here in the south. I purchased eight bags and all of it just looks like the black mulch has just liquified off of it. We will not be repurchasing. I uploaded two photos. One is from the day I laid all of it down, the other is from today.

metal debris lost color from
Lost color in less than 24 hours & metal debris
I happily bought 50 bags for a front yard project. Prepped the area removed all grass and filled with good planting dirt prior to putting down 14 of the bags in a flower bed. It looked amazing! Until the following afternoon. Yes, in less than 24 hours the color was washed off and 4 different bags contained what looks like a metal screw cap. Thankfully I found these before the kids did with the bare feet!
Very disappointed that I went with the ‘better brand” to be left with 5 day old mulch that looks like it’s been there for years.

Quality not what it used to be
I paid more to buy Scott’s mulch expecting a quality product. Unfortunately I might as well bought the cheaper mulch. I had very large chunks of wood. Not the quality of earlier years.

This mulch is complete trash. Multiple rocks in the bags, pieces of wood at least 4” long! Definitely not a very shredded mulch! Half the bags have white mold on them. Quality control inspector must’ve been stoned or sleeping on the job. At $4.98 a bag one would expect far better quality. If they consider this their “best mulch” then they are delusional. It would appear they are more concerned with maximizing profits over putting their name on a quality product!

Would not purchase again. Has weeds in it.
Before putting the mulch down, we put down weed blocking plastic. Now, I have these weeds with stickers that keep coming back. It still looks nice, except I am having to pull weeds ever couple of weeks. The picture shows what has grown in the past two weeks. Makes a lot of work when there shouldn’t be any.

Disappointed with quality
I recently purchased 17 bags of the Naturescape Black mulch during Lowe’s sale, choosing Scott’s being known for their quality. The majority of the bags contained large chucks or very long and thick pieces of wood. Some of the bags had yellow-colored pieces and a couple of bags were entirely dry and colorless. I did have a few bags that I was happy with the quality. Overall, I was disappointed; expecting better quality being Scott’s.

Faded very fast.
Completely faded to almost no color in just a week. you couldn't tell I even mulched it all after one week.
