Product inconsistency makes it a poor choice.
I bought 30 bags of this mulch. 15 looked like pine bark mini-chip mulch mixed with leaves and 15 looked liked great shredded hardwood mulch. Does not make for a great visual presentation as it is obvious.

Worst Mulch ever
This is absolutely the worst mulch I have ever used. Less than 24 hours and 1 rainy evening all of the color is gone. Look at the pictures!

Worst Mulch
Horrible mulch! First time I've used this product, will never use it again. It develops fungus/mold. I've removed it and will never use it again, will reach out to the home improvement store with my review as well

Don't trust this product
Extremely disappointed, 6 bags purchased from Lowes, the bags were full of termites, the termites damaged a small section of the baseboard in my garage, thank God I noticed it before they caused extensive damage. Obviously had to throw the bags away, unfortunately money in the garbage. Learned from a termite expert that this is not an uncommon, he has informed Lowes and pointed out to them bags of this mulch in their store full of termites.

Not a buyer of Scotts based on this experience.
I purchased 6 skids or 450 bags of the 1.5 cu ft black Nature Scapes Mulch from Lowes. The overall consistency was terribly disappointing as in some bags, I had the mulch I expected, other bags seemed to be filled with bark chips, and other bags seemed to contain a mixture of both. The consistency I expected in my beds is terribly disappointing to have invested more than $1600 and to end up with such a mish-mash of results. I tried to add pictures but the website would not cooperate.

We bought 180 bags of your mulch, it was moldy and stunk! We now have fungus growing all around our house….WE WILL NEVER BUY YOUR PRODUCTS EVER AGAIN! Waste of money, and waste of time trying to make our house look nice (it looks like crap now)!

THIS MULCH IS VERY TOXIC TO ANIMALS!!!
I purchased Color Enhanced 1.5-cu ft Deep Forest Brown Blend Mulch 2 days ago to build a ramp to the porch for my dog. I used 2 bags of play sand and covered it with this mulch. Within a day of walking on this mulch he has been very sick. Terrible Diarreah. He's 11yrs and can't to steps any longer. He has NEVER been sick like this, only since walking on this awful mulch. It has a very strong smell as well. Wasn't moldy, so it's the poorly manufactured mulch. Scotts manufacturing building needs to be inspected for providing such toxic mulch. I will be contact the Better Business Bureau and sending them my vet bill!!!

Quality control on this mulch is terrible!
I purchased 45 bags of Nature Scapes color enhanced mulch deep forest brown. The color variation from bag to bag is terrible!!! There is no consistency to the size of the mulch pcs. and why is there white paint on so many of the larger pcs of mulch? It looks terrible and I will never purchase Scotts mulch again. I am so disappointed with this product! I paid for the mulch and then paid someone to drop it. I'm so sorry that I wasted my hard earned money. Your quality standards are terrible!!! I would not recommend this product to anyone!!! So disappointed!!!!

Worst mulch I have ever purchased. The mulch contain large pieces of wood, larger than I have seen in mulch before. All 3 bags had the same quality issues.

Full of random debris
Terrible product. Full of random plastics, ceramic pieces and an elbow from a pipe?!? There was some fungus growing in a couple of bags too. I reached out to Scott’s and never heard back. I can’t upload the pictures to this form either

Never buying Scotts again
This is my go-to mulch. NOT ANY MORE!
Purchased 9 bags of this black mulch on 7/13/23. Came home and immediately mulched the bed. Was disappointed to find large pieces of "wood" in the mulch (almost a foot long). There was also bits of paper and plastic in the mulch. But to my even greater disappointment, the next day the color was gone. Looks like I didn't mulch at all. Thought perhaps it was just me so I went back (7/14/23) and bought 6 more bags to finish the job. Finished mulching the bed and it is clear that the color is indeed gone. The money is one thing, but the time and effort it took to get the mulch, unload the car, carry the mulch to the beds, and then mulch is what upsets me the most. Now I have to remove this mulch, go buy new and different mulch, and re-mulch the beds. So disappointed in this product.

Did Not retain its color
Disappointed with the Scott's nature scape black mulch. Purchased 15 bags of the black mulch, placed it down in our flower bed and after two weeks the color is gone. Looks like a "nature" Color, (light brown wood chips). Not happy, might have to remove it and purchase another brand to get the look that my wife wants.

Terrible . Peter the manager at wappinger falls told me I applied it wrong . I picked up this bags wet from the location at wappingers falls . About 45 bags now look like 3 years old . Peter manager at tonight’s shift 7/11/23 has terrible costumer service . All it took was one rainy night . I have experience in the landscaping area and wow what a terrible experience over all.

Less than 24hrs…
I bought 40bags, and less than 24hrs later after I spread it out, the color was gone. Approximately 14hrs out of the bag with one 20min medium rain, and then sunlight.

Heartbroken
This is the wore mulch I ever bought. Now I have to hire someone to come and remove all of over 75 bags that I bought and it is killing all my planet. If you look at the picture this is growing all over it. The saddest part is it’s killing my rose bushes that have my family members ashes buried under them. I have been also carrying my mother who passed away her hostas. I was waiting to buy a house to spread them out. Under one of my rose bushes are her ashes that can’t be replaced no matter what. Actually none of my families ashes can be replaced. I am so heartbroken. Won’t let me load the picture but looks like some type of alien fungus growing all over it.

Horrible quality control!
Horrible quality control. Bought many bags of the Nature Scapes mulch in brown. Put about 8 bags down in my planting beds and then went to put more down and the texture of the mulch is totally different. With the first bags the mulch was finer and more like hammered mulch. The next bags I went to put down were very chippy and look nothing like the mulch from the other bags. No one wants 2 different looking mulches in their planting beds. We had this problem years ago and thought maybe they would improve but nope.

Termites in Mulch
Termites in black mulch. Bought 25 bags of mulch and after putting out 18 bags we find it infested with termites. No idea what to do at this point. Termites are a serious problem. Very unhappy

Nous achetons ce produit depuis 9 ans déjà….. nous en avons acheté cette année encore au mois de mai et tout était beau….comme nous en avons manqué nous sommes retournés en acheter en juillet….le paillis dans le sac était déjà décoloré et après la pluie durant la nuit il ne restait plus aucune couleur sur le paillis ce qui n’est jamais arrivé……malheureusement l’an prochain nous devrons faire un autre choix puisqu’il n’a pas non plus été simple de se faire rembourser chez Canadian Tire……

Termites in mulch
I bought 18 bags of the black mulch from my local Lowes store. After pouring 17 bags in my front and back yards, I found a big nest of termites. Hinders of them flew out. First I thought those were bugs, but figured out they were termites later. Never had termites in my house. This is terrible! Not sure if the mulch will attract termites eventually. Will never put any mulch in my yard or buy anything from lowes.

Terrible experience
I bought 40 bags of this mulch about a month ago. With it came an infestation of boxelder bugs. I had never even seen these bugs before but now whenever you step in my garden, loads of them come crawling and flying out of the mulch. It also came with an abundance of weeds... some sort of tree that I don't know but that certainly doesn't grow anywhere near my house. I would not recommend this to anyone. It is by far the worst experience I've had with any gardening supply.

Mulch Sucked!!
Absolute worse mulch I’ve ever purchased. I bought 50 bags and most had huge pieces a foot or longer in them. Terrible, will never buy again. Looks awful and a waste of money.

Poor product
This product was wet when I purchased it. In my car dark brown water poured out of it and in my car. Once at the house, loaded it on a stone walll where I was going to work it in the garden. AGAIN, DARK BROWN DRIPPED ALL OVER THE WALL. Don’t believe the “color guard “ really works

TERRIBLE - LOSES COLOR IN A FEW DAYS.
Look at the comparison photo of the Black Vigaro. Scots turned brown, Vigaro stayed black. I want black so I have to do all the work over again. The worst part hauling 20 bags at time every time I go to town. I bought 90 bags on sale. Thats what they will refund. I have to now pay double to replace it plus another $79 delivery charge (which they will not reimburse for). Buy Vigario !

Shotgun Fungus
I bought 18 I.5 cubic ft bogs of Scott’s black mulch at Lowe’s . It did look pretty good for a while but I noticed little black dots on the side of my house a little while later. Google called it “Shotgun fungus or Artillery fungus”. It is hard to remove. I ended up using steel wool to get it off my door. Now I have to paint the door!
Those little black dots are all over my siding and a small vinyl fence. How do I get it off those areas?

This mulch is horrible! Because it was a Scotts product I assumed it would be better than what I normally buy and did not read any reviews. I am about 60 bags into one area and after spreading this moldy stuff have lots of weeds and grass growing through the mulch and it has faded and looks like what I was replacing from 2 years ago. So disappointed. (BTW...I am a 70 yr old lady who made 5 trips to my local Ace store because I could only bring home 12 bags per trip in my SUV)

I’ve used Scott’s for years; this was the worst ever. There were huge pieces of wood, white fungus, and the color looked worse than the stuff I had down from a year ago. I’m so disappointed.

Won’t buy this again
I bought 20 bags of this mulch from Lowe’s last week and now my yard is filled with rocks. My dog has been eating the rocks. I am very disappointed in the product.

Never again
Didn’t learn my lesson last year. Bags full of rocks and large 6” plus pieces of wood. Same this Spring, lots of rocks and large chunks of wood and unsightly white mold. Poor quality standards. Never again Scott’s. I suggest you order a small load from local landscape company. It will be better quality, shredded hardwood mulch and less expensive.
