The worst mulch we’ve ever used!
Remulched our beds on March 28th with the black naturescapes. Within just a matter of days, it’s completely faded. Not to mention, whatever chemicals they use on the mulch burned my hands like crazy! Never again :(

12 month color guarantee is more like 12 da
I got 14 bags and noticed some fading pretty quickly. In the attached photo you can see the difference between 3 weeks old and brand new. The product is pretty disappointing and not as advertised, which is surprising for a big name brand

Don't believe the bag!
It's cheap for a reason. Full of mold and growing mushrooms. Doesn't seem to prevent anything from growing under it at recommended depth.

Consistency is key
I am a landscaper in Oklahoma and have recently
Purchased numerous pallets of mulch. The cut is not consistent from one bag to the next. It varies from shred to chunk mulch per bag. If only purchasing 30 bags, rather than a full pallet, it takes too much time to check each bag for “shredded” vs “chunk” as we are loading .
This is very disappointing as I have to cover the “chunk” bags of mulch with shredded to make it look consistent within my client’s flowerbed(s).

Literal poop
We bought about 36 bags of this mulch and all of it had large patches of mold. I have seen this with other brands too, so was just careful in how I distributed. Every single bag has also included a little bit of garbage including plastic and metals. The last bag I opened was full of poop. Disgusting! I had to throw most of it out. I am very disappointed and will be switching brands.

I bought this May 2024 and added to my back yard beds. After one week with some rain, I had to re-mulch with bulk mulch delivered because this product color was washed out.

What’s with the color fade? So disappointed!

Waste of money and potentially unsafe.
Have purchased nearly 30 bags of the black mulch from Home Depot...color never lasts, large chunks of wood, and now nearly every bag has a giant rock in it...not exaggerating about the size, the last 6 bags each had a rock in it and the largest one was 6"x3" and heavy, fell right on my foot.

Moldy mulch
I would give it a zero if I could. Most of the 40 bags I bought from Home Depot were full of mold! After researching on line I found a blurb from Scott’s saying sorry for the mold but no answer of what to do! Don’t buy this product!!!!

Horrible
We have bought 4 pallets of Scott’s black mulch. We have 3 homes to use it at. Have been so disappointed in this mulch this year. A lot of it has mold in the bags. And then I now have weeds coming up in the mulch. It has to be something that is in the mulch. As we have landscaping material down and it is coming from about the middle of the mulch. We have this mulch about 4 inches deep everywhere. Am so very upset about this. Definitely will not recommend this product to anyone. A lot of hard earned money spent for trash.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT
I bought 30 bags for a small area on 05/24/2024. We put all bags out that day. After 2 days of rain, the black mulch looks its been out for a year! I have used this mulch for many years but this year has to be the worst ever! Very Disappointed !!

Color faded after one rain. Looks horrible.
Bought 105 bags at Lowe’s over the Memorial Day weekend. Got rained on and lost its color by the next day. Inconsistent color from bag to bag as well. Disappointed and won’t buy again.

Does not hold color
Unfortunately within 24 hours this black mulch looks kind of brown. Totally lost the black color we had out the bag and within 1 day looks far worse than the black mulch I have had down in the back yard for 14 months. What is the point of the color guarantee? And despite many other feedbacks, it was not subject to rain or watering.

Worst Mulch Ever
The worst mulch ever. Like other customers have mentioned, so many foreign objects in the bags (pieces of plastic and other garbage), and the quality of the actual mulch itself is awful. Huge chunks of wood, random burs mixed in, moldy product and after only two weeks, the black color has completely washed off several spots already. I will never buy Scotts mulch again after this terrible experience.

This product is horrible
I am extremely disappointed bought over 120 bags and the color variation is horrible. While on the outside the sale was a good thing, the bad part is I now have a two tone mulched bed.

This product is not worth the cost.
I bought approximately 120 bags from Home Depot and applied it this weekend. The color and consistency is vastly different and after applying i have a 2 tone yard. Extremely disappointed.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT
I thought that I couldn’t go wrong with Scott’s brand mulch,but I sure learned differently!! This is by far, the worst stuff I have ever purchased. 20 bags of garbage!! Large sticks and hunks of wood. Inconsistent color throughout. If I could load the remaining 18 bags into my vehicle, I would return them to Lowe’s.
This product does not speak well for Scott’s!!
Now I’m stuck with my beds looking terrible.
I will have to think twice before ever purchasing a Scott’s product again!!

DON'T BUY - One star is not low enough
I just bought 70 bags at Lowes. This is the worst mulch I have ever seen. I have for years bought the Lowes brand mulch and have bee very pleased. This was a 1/2yd less and Scotts brand so felt it was a top brand. Boy was I wrong. Sticks and what I would call limbs in almost every bag. So much white fungi it was ridiculous. I will never buy this again.

Worst mulch
I bought this yesterday. It was the worst mulch I ever had. The mulch was large shreds of wood. That wasn’t the worst. Every time I opened the bag and started to dump it , the mulch seemed fine. When I got halfway through it was faded and moldy. Will never buy again. Not I’ll have to go to my local garden center and have their nicely shredded mulch delivered and pay the delivery fee to go over this horrible mulch

Poor mulch
I bought 17 bags of this black mulch and majority of it was moldy and the very next day the mulch was tan colored! I bought a new bag threw it down and just look at the diffemce from one day!

MOLDY, stinky, poor quality mulch
I do not normally leave reviews but I’ve had it. The past several years seems like the Scott’s grade of mulch has gone WAY down and the amount of MOLD in each bag has gone UP!!! I’ve been landscaping for decades and this will be the last year I buy Scott’s. My flowerbed area is a shaded area and already prone to dampness and mold. WHY would I add fresh brand new mulch that is 75%+ WHITE STINKY MOLD! Maybe it should be treated before bagged. I’ll have mine delivered next year. I’m DONE with Scott’s cheap quality, stinky garbage left-over landfill white, fuzzy mulch!

Don't buy Scotts mulch!
Worst product ever - Each bag is a different color even though we purchased red. Some of the bags are dark brown, some are brown on the end and red on the other end. Not consistent in any way. Last time for us. I have emailed Scotts and waiting on reply. And who wants to load all that mulch back up and take it to the store, where we had to load it all ourselves to bring it home.

Get bulk mulch delivered if you need lots
I used Home Depot’s Vigoro because I needed 180 bags cm and the price was 30 percent less than Scott’s
This time I decided to pay more and I bought 100 bags to refresh our gardens
The product had a lot of large chunks and was of inconsistent size and texture. I even pulled out a rubber shoe sole
Next time I will get a nursery to deliver proper mulch

Black mulch i.e. "wood chips"
Purchased 12 bags of the black mulch 10 days ago and spread it the next day. All of the color " disappeared" within 2 days. I've never had this happen before. It looks like we spread wood chips. Will never purchase this product again.

Horrible weed problem in Nature Scape dark brown m
I bought 200 bags last summer and applied on my yard and flower beds. Very disappointing that after the cost of the material and labor myself and hiring someone to help me spread the mulch, within 2 weeks, I found lots of weeds growing on top of the mulch and tthey have tiny leaves just like those pictured in one of the reviews below that's very difficult to get rid of and to pull them out. Instead of beautifying the flower beds and reducing maintenance, the weeds are so unsightly and has become a constant maintenance for me!
