Rated 1 out of 5 by from No color gaurd on the black mulch for sure! I spread 30 bags og Scott's cedar mulch in my garden beds and under my trees. It rained twice and when the mulch dried the black is all washed off to almost bare wood bark and chips. It looks like it's been down since 3 or 4 years it's so washed out!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible mulch Bought 30ish bags from Lowe's as I do every year. I always have went with the cheapest and never had an issue. Scotts was the same price so I decided to try them as they suppose to be good. I put the mulch down end of April around my trees and most of the color is gone already. Absolutely garbage

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ALL THE BLACK WASHED OUT FROM RAIN IN JUST ONE NIG I put down some of this black mulch and that night it rained and the very next day the mulch was COMPLETELY rinsed of any black color and was all looking like the old mulch from the year before. I've never had black mulch fade so fast. Not even 24 hours later! I'm glad I did not do the entire yard. Only used two bags. The third one is going back!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Your product STINKS now I am so disappointed this year with Scotts Nature Scapes Brown Mulch after using it for years. It was the only brand I would buy. Not anymore. It used to be thick consistent colored wood chunks that would last a very long time. Now is like the cheap light shredded stuff you get in bulk. It looks like shredded pork. It's terrible. I have used your product with great satisfaction for years but won' be buying from you again. What a shame.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I just bought some today from Lowe’s and it smells horrible, and there are now flys all over the front of my house

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is not mulch! We purchased around 70 bags for various beds that needed refreshing from the original mulch from a few years ago. First thing noticed in opening the bags was the number of large chunks and poor consistency. We had to pick out a lot of large chunks as it would be possible for someone to twist an ankle on them. I’m not sure how the product is even called mulch. Wood chunks would probably be a better description. The other thing we noticed was a lot of green stiff nylon string like material. So, we started placing this product (I refuse to call it mulch) a couple of weeks ago and we’ve noticed the colouring to already to be fading. We expected so much more from a product with Scott’s name on it. Just for kicks, I picked up a bag of cheaper, no name mulch to compare, and it is what I would expect mulch to look like, and it was $1/bag less than the big brand Scott’s name with all the great product qualities advertised on the bag. Needless to say, we will never be buying this stuff again. Very disappointed! It was raining at the time the pics were taken, so it actually looks darker than when dry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WORSE THAN HORRIBLE WORST mulch I have EVER used. Faded in 1 ONE!! DAY. I will NEVER buy it again. If you are not supposed to water or use in case of rain, put that "warning" ON THE FRONT OF THE BAG!!!!! I will never use ANY of your products again. And I will tell ALL of my friends and post on my socials about this worthless product. Done.with.you!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I Don't Recommend I bought 4 bags of the Nature Scapes Color Enhanced Mulch in black last Sunday for a small project....The black mulch looked great when we put it down. It rained later that evening and by the next day the color was already going away. The black mulch I have (from a local sand and gravel company) is two years old and has held its black color FAR better than this new Scotts mulch...it is more of a brown mulch in only 24 hours.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Earth Scape Mulch Purchased 25 bags at Lowe's last week and it rained the day after and the color washed out and it looks terrible. Bags had bark, pieces of planks, and some rocks. Bought 20 bags of the cheaper Staygreen 2 weeks prior and it looks great. What's happened to Scott's quality. Do not buy this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality Bought a few pallets of black dyed mulch and it’s complete garbage. Filled with pieces of trash, tires, candy wrappers, large chunks of wood, big sticks, undyed pieces, and the first rain washed out a large part of the dye leaving me with mulch that looks like mixed raw wood. Too late to dig it all up but I wish I never used it my property looked better with the 2 year old lowes stagreen stuff.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Color I bought 20 bags of this mulch and over half of them I opened up and some of the mulch in the bag wasnt even colored.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality Scott's nature scapes mulch used to be a good product, the best you could get. Sorry to say, the quality has gone completely down. Gardeners that purchase nature scapes mulch are serious about their landscape. We cannot settle for this type of product. It's full of mold, inconsistent with chunks and pieces of wood, and very unsightly. And the retailer expects us to stop what we're doing and bring the product back to the store, all the while knowing it was held over from the previous year .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in Scotts Mulch Living in an HOA community , I do not need to mulch for they do it for us, but we want a better product then what the HOA applies. Scotts products have always been our choice, but I am very disappointed by the quality this year. We buy Nature Scapes deep forest brown color guard mulch. In the past the mulch was of very high quality. We bought our supply for this year -same kind and same place- Lowes Product # 32247 88659. Well what a disappointment!! Large chunks of bark throughout ; nothing like what we purchased in the past. If this is Scotts company's idea of the "Best Mulch" and "Dedicated to a Beautiful World" we will have to reconsider buying Scotts ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Mulch! If you want big sticks and large pieces of wood in your mulch, then this is the product for you. You may also get bonus rocks, plastic, and pieces of all kinds of stuff that is not wood mulch. Go with another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Different mulch types I purchased 100 bags of Scotts NatureScapes mulch in deep forest brown. Same bags and description but two completely different mulches. Some were very large shredded mulch while others were smaller sized with lots of bark (a much nicer, prettier mulch) which is what I wanted. Unfortunately it’s been spread and I’m not gonna change it now (too much time, money and effort). This is the second season I’ve noticed different mulch in same bags by Scott’s. That said I will have to open bags prior to purchasing in the future or choose a different brand. Scott’s should have better quality control across their mulch providers to ensure consistency of product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it Purchased close to 100 bags of the black color fade gaurentee mulch last spring to finish our landscaping to suppress weeds and add organic matter to my garden. This never suppressed the weeds, I am now constantly pulling weeds and digging out mounds and mounds of mushrooms and fungus. The product has faded to grey not even a year later and the chunks of tree branches etc. are so big I can not see these ever breaking down. This created more work than it was worth and a very very expensive lesson to learn

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good I bought 72 bags brown premium Scott’s much from Lowe’s last June. It has all decomposed Turn to dirt and I have a ton of weeds. Scotts used to be a great product really disappeared. Same with the Bonus S weed and feed. It didn’t do squat. Very unsatisfied customer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SMELLS REALLY BAD I purchased 50 bags of black at Lowes and the smell when opening the bags made me sick.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stinky and killing my plants I bought 30 bags of the brown colorstay mulch. It stunk up my whole neighbourhood for 2 weeks- which says a lot as I live on an acre of land. The smell is finally starting to subside (unless it rains) and now most of my plants in the 100 foot bed are turning brown and losing leaves. It was the finishing touch on a 2 month project of digging out, planting and adding edging.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What happened? I'm not sure what happened to Scott's Nature Scapes mulch but it is no longer my mulch of choice. Somewhere along the line they decided that large chunks of wood are appropriate and pass as mulch. I just read the recent reviews and agree with most of them about the quality degradation. Come on Scotts - you can do better. Unfortunately you will not get my business again. I have been buying your product for 40+ years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?! Why does the quality of everything in this world continue to decline at such an exponential rate? In the past, I've been rather pleased with both the quality and the value of this product. So naturally, when I needed to re-mulch this spring, I again chose Scott's Nature Scapes. I began using the few bags I had left over from last year. Then, on to the bags I purchased this spring... What happened?!?!??????!! I can't believe Scotts is trying to pass this bag of brown yard waste off as "mulch". Dyed mulch used to be an advantage because the dye helps the muclh to retain its color for a longer period of time. Now, the dye simply allows Scotts to bag up whatever organic AND inorganic trash that'll retain dye, then pass it off as mulch. Also, it's important to note that "premium" mulch used to mean TRIPLE shredded. This junk is mostly UNshredded and contains massive chunks of debris and near-tree-stump-size sticks, branches and other unidentified pieces of mysterious stuff. There truly is no excuse for this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would think Scott’s would be better than this! Large Chunks and unwanted debris! Found plastic, what looked like ceramic coated sewer pipe. Pieces of wood over seven inches long. Last time I buy a Scott’s Product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Polluted my garden and landscaping. I would give a zero if possible. I removed handfuls of various plastics and debris. You just polluted my yard and garden. This should be made public so people can make informative choices.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Slime mold I bought 45 bags on Memorial Day weekend and noticed most of the bags had a white substance in it, which I assume was mold. By that point I decided to lay it down and hope that the mold went away. Now I have several areas of the mulch with slime mold growing on it. I’ve been mulching the area for years with different mulch, and this is the first time this has happened. I’m disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Watch out for mold! I bought about 45 bags of the black mulch and I’m extremely disappointed. Almost every bag had white stuff in it which I disregarded, but now I realize that was a big mistake. Now I’m dealing with slime mold growing all over my landscaped area. I’ve never had this issue with other brands in the years I’ve lived here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not buying again. I bought 40 bags and was very disappointed in the size of the mulch along with a lot of white discoloration on the mulch. Pieces were way too big and I ended up throwing out about 2 bags worth of too large pieces. Contained debris, including metal pieces.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible smell Bought 12 bags last weekend. The smell iof sour milk or rotten vegetables was in every bag. We thought it would disappear once in was in the garden but it's been 5 days and it still stinks. Company coming fir the weekend. What a disaster!
