Description

Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® prevents crabgrass and other problem weeds for a beautiful lawn all season long. In early spring, apply when the lawn is dry to prevent the germination of crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, and oxalis. Apply in the fall (August-October) to prevent moss (except in California), or to prevent the germination of Poa annua, henbit, corn speedwell, and chickweed. We recommend using a Scotts® spreader to apply this product. For Scotts® broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 2 ¼. For Scotts® drop spreaders, use a setting of 4 ½. For Scotts® Wizz®, use a setting of 3 ¼. For best results, the lawn should receive ¼ to ½ inch of water from rainfall or watering within 2-3 days after application. Rain, snow, or freezing weather after application will not affect performance. This product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. Do not apply to Dichondra and Bentgrass. One 10.06 lb. bag of Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® covers 5,000 sq. ft.

How to Use

  • Check bag for spreader setting
  • When using a Scotts® broadcast or Wizz® spreader, make a perimeter pass of your lawn with EdgeGuard® on to protect non-lawn areas. Then, make parallel internal passes 5 ft. apart to ensure even coverage.
  • When using a Scotts drop spreader, start 5 feet from the edge of your lawn and walk the outline of your lawn. Then, make internal passes across your lawn, overlapping the wheel marks to ensure uniform coverage.

Where Not to Use

  • Do NOT apply to dichondra or bentgrass lawns

Where to Use

  • Can be used on all lawn and grass types EXCEPT dichondra and bentgrass

When to Apply

  • Apply once in spring and once in the fall
  • In southern California, apply before March 1st
  • In northern California, apply before mid-March

How Often to Apply

  • Apply a maximum of twice a year with a minimum of 2 months between applications

Watering Tips

  • It is not necessary to water in immediately. For best results, lightly water the lawn to rinse particles from grass blades (up to ¼ to ½ inch) within 2-3 days after application.

Using with Other Products

  • Follow with Scotts® Turf Builder® Weed & Feed or with Scotts® Weed Control for Lawns

You should also sweep any product that has spilled or spread to sidewalks or other hard surfaces, back into the area being treated. This prevents runoff into streams and lakes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be Gone Crabgrass! In the past, I have had a terrible crabgrass problem in the back yard, but luckily that is now a thing of the past. I usually apply it in the spring, and I use a spreader to do so because it ensures that the product is applied evenly. The instructions advise applying the product immediately prior to rainfall, and that is exactly what I did. They key is getting to the crabgrass early on in the season before it takes a hold on the grass. It works fine and I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greener and healthier. I applied Scotts Weed Ex to my lawn at my house in the mountains a few weeks ago. I went up yesterday to find the broadleaf weeds curled up and the lawn is greener than my neighbors. I'm not sure if the nutrients in the product helped to green up the lawn faster than my neighbor, but the proof is on the lawn. I was concerned about the safety for the deer and wildlife who visit constantly but as long as it's applied to a moist lawn and allowed to dry, it's safe. I never treated that lawn before so it had a lot of work to do. And is doing it well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent product Another excellent product from Scotts, similar to other Scotts products for lawn care which I have used for the past several years. This helps with crabgrass prevention, as well as spring yard fertilization. It covered well and hopefully should last into the season. No problems or concerns so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I use WeedEx every year in the spring to control the germination of weed seeds. My lawn is pretty lush and thick so I normally don't have a weed problem. Some of my neighbors have weedy lawns and I use this to prevent the seeds that blow from their weeds germinating in my lawn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bye Bye Crabgrass My experience with Scotts WeedEX is that it is extremely effective at preventing crabgrass from invading my lawn. It is not, however, as effective at killing existing crabgrass. In the Northeast where I live, WeedEx needs to be applied to the lawn early in the season (mid March to mid April). WeedEx can also be applied in the Fall to help prevent crabgrass from appearing in the following Spring. Even though WeedEx kills other types of weeds, I have found it to be primarily a crabgrass preventer/killer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I tried out the Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts. It prevents crabgrass all year long. I poured the bag into my scotts speader. It was enough to cover my front and back yard. It had low odor. I waited until it was a dry day and was going to rain that evening. It need water to make sure it soaked into the soil. I did this about a week ago and i haven't see any crabgrass yet. I like that this product prevents this all year with just one application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for warm season grass in February and May I live in Wake Forest, NC, and I have warm-season grasses. Scotts WeedEx Prevent with Halts is perfect for my Zoysia grass. I apply this product in February when I need to focus on pre-emergent timing and reapply in late April. I like this product because it does not fertilize, as Zoysia grass is best fertilized in late May; it only provides pre-emergent weed control. I have used it for the past several years and have had virtually no crabgrass issues. I am very happy with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get rid of them crabgrass! This 10-pound bag "WeedEx" with Halts should adequately control and eradicate unwanted crab grass in a moderate-sized yard. Apply it a week after using the Weed and Feed product by Scott. It must be applied during early spring or fall to prevent winter weeds. Use a spreader to apply it and follow the instructions on the bag. Avoiding foot traffic after application for at least several days is best. Watering your lawn should be resumed after a few days, and prevent run-off. Furthermore, it is also recommended to avoid pets, especially children, playing in the yard at least a week after application, which can cause health issues.
