Description
Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Contractor's Mix is an all-purpose mix for sunny and shady areas. This mix works to quickly repair bare areas. In addition, each seed is coated to absorb 2X more water than uncoated seed. Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Contractor's Mix is designed for full sun and light shade, and has a coarse bladed texture with medium drought resistance. It can be used to seed a new lawn or overseed an existing lawn. For best results, apply in the spring or fall when air temperatures are consistently between 60°F and 80°F. We recommend using a Scotts® spreader to apply this product (please refer to spreader settings on product label). Water daily or as needed to keep the soil surface moist until the seedlings reach at least 2 inches tall. One 20 lb. bag of Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Contractor's Mix has a new lawn coverage of 2,665 sq. ft. and an overseeding coverage of 8,000 sq. ft.
Step by Step Instructions
1. PREP
- Rake area to loosen the top layer of soil and remove dead grass. For best results, add a thin layer of Scotts® Turf Builder® LawnSoil™ before applying seed.
2. APPLY
- Apply using a Scotts® spreader. Lightly rake the seed into the soil. For best results, apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter Food for New Grass when seeding to help new grass grow in quicker and thicker.
3. WATER
- Watering is a critical step to seeding success. Water daily or as needed to keep the soil surface moist until the seedlings reach at least 2 inches tall.
4. CARE
- Seed will begin to grow in 5-10 days. You can mow the seedlings when they reach 3 inches in height. For best results, apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter® Food for New Grass when seeding. Do not apply a weed control product until after at least four mowings.

very good seed
I used this to overseed my lawn after it was a bit damaged last summer. The lawn looks as good as ever. I am very happy with this seed. Grass is lush and green. Highly recommended.

Great seed for general areas
I purchased this product to overseed/reseed a large area underneath a large maple tree I have in my backyard. I was able to seed the area before the tree completely leafed out and the bare spots began to green up within 4-5 days. As the tree canopy closed up and it was full shade under the tree, the bare spots completely filled in and thickened up. Now the area least likely to grow grass in my yard has the best looking grass in the yard.

Fast Germination
I received this product to try and now after flooding rains have stopped I was able to use the seed.
I first raked up the area to loosen the soil then I put down Scotts® Turf Builder® Starter® Food for New Grass. Then ontop of that i put down the grass seed. I then watered the two products together real well. I kept a light watering a couple of times a day and in four days i had germination.

Scott's Contractors Seed Mix Works!!!
Used it to cover patches and overseed existing lawn in back end of yard and the seeds started germinating in days. Patches filled in beautifully and area looks more lush.

Grass seed that has it all
I like this grass seed because of the water retention that it has. Where I live, we might have three days of rain and then no rain for three days. I am seeing the grass sprouting now and it is hard to tell but I don't see no weeds growing along with the grass seed. I used this grass seed as a patch filler and an overlay for all my grass. This grass seed is working so far.

Great seed
This seed worked very well with minimal watering on an area where we took out trees and replaced them with smaller bushes. The soil had a lot of pine needles, etc. in it and the grass looks very good. We have also used it to mend the dog's digs for treasures! I think we'll need some more for that purpose soon; she's been busy again.

FAST GROWING
THE SEED SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY FAST GERMINATING. THE USE OF A SPREADER WORKS GREAT. I USED THE HAND HELD EASY SPREADER BY SCOTTS THAT IS BATTERY POWERED. I COVERED MY AREA WITH A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF SEED AND LIGHTLY COVERED THE SEED WITH SOIL. PRETTY SIMPLE PROCESS. I WATERED DAILY UNTIL A LARGE AREA OF GROWTH HAD APPEARED AND THEN DROPPED BACK TO EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. EVEN A FIRST TIMER CAN HANDLE THIS.

Great results.
I applied the seed to my back yard shortly after receiving. My yard needed to be overseeded. After the seeding, I applied Scott's starter fertilizer. The grass looks great, the only problem is that it grows so fast that I have to keep mowing, that is really not a problem.

You can never go wrong with Scotts products.
This product is pre mixed for my region and grows grass in both sunny and part shade locations. This product is all seed with no waste material so I recommend covering the seed with a light layer of mulch, soil, or peat moss. The germination rate is high but I also recommend waiting for weather to warm up consistently above the mid 50's to assure germination.

Fills in Nicely
I used this to fill some large grassless patches. It is easy to distribute and germinated in about 15 days. I have only mowed it once (some mulch hay is still visible), but it seems to be filling in the entire bare patch. Before and after pictures are included.

Grows Well
I like to overseed my yard 2x a yr once in the early spring and again in the fall. Doing this reduces the need for weed/weed since healthy grass will crowd out weeds. I find this product fits my needs well and gives me good results while being a good value.

Contractor's Mix worked perfectly
Last year I had drainage work done on my back yard. The contractor seeded, fertilized and threw down straw. I watered as he directed but very little grass came up by the end of the summer. This year I used Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Contractor's Mix along with Scotts started fertilizer and is filling in very well. Product was very easy to put down and has not required a ton of watering due to rain. Seems to be coming up nice and thick. Should be ready to use by Memorial day.

Grass filling in great.
I used Contractor's mix on to over seed a large area in my front yard that is actually a ditch that is next to the road. I over seeded fairly heavy on 4/9/2017 and used the Scott's starter fertilizer in conjunction with the contractors grass mix and the early results are excellent! Grass is filling in great! Weather conditions have been real good after the first week - cool and rainy. Just a note of information I used Scott's Landscapers grass seed in the back on the same day but have not got the same results - only about half the bare spots have filled in but to be fair this is in a high traffic area. I think the starter fertilizer probably helped. This was an established area but patchy and I did not use straw.

Easy to use
I applied this a few weeks ago, followed by Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass with Weed Preventer. With all the rain we have been having I see beautiful new grass sprouting. I did have an issue with a big area where the grass went silvery white and not sure why, but it seems to be greening up again so maybe what I am now seeing is the new grass coming in. Other than a few random dandelions the lawn has been pretty much weed free.

good growth over utility
Last fall the city fixed a water main break, Tired of waiting for them to come back and plant seed I put down the Contactors Mix. At first I was concerned about the grass quality but it looks nice medium green grew in 10-14 days, I am pleased.

Very good and effective product.
My home which was built three years ago had some areas along one side that the sod that was applied never survived. I had seeded it in the past and no luck at all. This area is quite sunny during the days and I think it could be a contributor. I prepped the area and followed the easy instructions on your package and applied the seed. I wasn't expecting anything but your product has amazed me. Thus far I have a tremendous amount of grass growing in that area and it has been doing wonderful even with the sun pounding off the house onto it. As mentioned, I had seeded this in the past, numerous times with no luck at all of anything coming up or surviving long. The grass from this mix has come up and is quite full and is doing wonderful. Great product.

Grass grows quickly!!
I used Scott's lawn soil with the seed and topped it with straw, within a weeks time patch area was fully filled in!!! Very impressed!! Planted in the early spring we will see how it holds up to our very hot summers, but so far so good!

Excellent Grass Seed
This is the best grass seed I have ever used. Planted grass 10 days ago and it seems like 4a month ago. Grass has already filled in less than 21 days. I am still. It going to cut until at least a month of growth. Follow instructions on nag - extra water does help
