Coverage Area
A 1.5 cu. ft. bag will cover the following:
- 1 bag at a depth of 3 inches will cover 8 sq. ft of bedding area
- 2 bags at a depth of 3 inches will cover 16 sq. ft of bedding area
- 3 bags at a depth of 3 inches will cover 24 sq. ft of bedding area

DESCRIPTION
Beautify your landscape with Earthgro® by Scotts® Black Mulch. Our bagged mulch uses Scotts® Color Advantage® to provide year-long color. Made from forest products, this shredded wood mulch helps conserve soil moisture while also preventing weeds by blocking growth and access to sunlight when applied at a 3-inch depth. Plus, this landscape mulch is free from construction debris and is locally made*. Use this colored mulch around trees, shrubs, flowers, or vegetables in gardens and landscapes. Some color fading of exposed material will occur due to natural product degradation. For longest color, keep mulch dry for 24 hours after application. To optimize color, it is recommended to turn or rake the top 1" of mulch every 3-4 months. One 1.5 cu. ft. bag of Earthgro® by Scotts® Black Mulch covers approximately 6 sq. ft. *Each bag of Earthgro® by Scotts® mulch is manufactured an average of 100 miles from the stores where it is sold.

Where Not to Use
- Do not apply to areas where seeds have not yet germinated, around underdeveloped plants, or next to house foundations or other wood surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is mulch the same as compost?
Mulch and compost are different things, and both are good for your garden. Compost is decomposing organic material that you mix into soil to improve texture and add nutrients. Mulch is typically made from wood and goes on top of soil to help prevent weeds, retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and beautify landscapes.
My mulch bag has mold growing in it. Is it still good?
If you find mold in your bag of Earthgro® by Scotts® mulch, don't panic. Mold spores are naturally present in mulches and thrive under moist conditions inside bags. Mold and fungus are natural components in healthy mulch, and can contribute to a thriving garden.
Should I water after laying mulch?
It's not required, but watering after laying fresh mulch will help settle the mulch into place. Wait 24-48 to water dyed mulches so colors don't bleed onto sidewalks or driveways.

Wildlife Friendly
My need for this mulch is likely quite different than most other consumers. We bought this mulch for an outdoor enclosure for a wildlife rehabilitation center. It is safe for the birds and keeps weeds at bay. Many grateful robins and cardinals!

I am pleased how the product performs.
Last year, first time using EarthGro, did what it described to do. This year I noted some weeds sprouted through the mulch I purchased. I also found construction and miscellaneous debris in two bags. I will continue using EarthGro as it makes my garden look great but better care and inspections need to be made to prevent debris in the bags.

No issues with this product
I’ve never had a problem with the mulch, even if I didn’t use several months. When mold or fungus is present due to the mulch not being used for several months, I found that after spreading the mulch, the mold and fungus disappears after several days, especially when the sun is warming the area.
