Rated 1 out of 5 by from I don't think I will buy thi product again. My much has lost it color from water dripping from roof after only one week.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product is inconsistent from bag to bag. Bags also had pieces of plastic and chunks of rubber in them. This has taken a project that I have taken pride in down in appearance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I won't buy this product again . This mulch faded quickly especially from water runoff from roof. The mulch there is almost clear . I can't add images because I just replaced the mulch where it turned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not recommend! Bought 52 bags of this mulch to do our entire yard. Two weeks later it rained, and the brown mulch has faded. The bag clearly states "12 months color advantage". The color lasted two weeks. It also says it helps prevent weed growth. Less than two weeks after putting the thick layer of mulch down, we already have weeds coming through.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faded after a few months I bought about 25 bags of the black mulch Earthgro since it says color guaranteed for 12 month, I felt good. After about 2 months the color faded, now 8 months, it is grayish looking, and grass grows thru it, even when I put a weed barrier. I have to redo everything. Very disappointed with the product. Let see if you really stand by your products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big disappointment If I could give this product a half of a star, I would. After buying countless bags of mulch, months later I notice an ugly looking mushroom with a green top covered in gnats. The smell was strong too. So of course I get my rake to take it out of my flower bed only to find the mulch had turned white under and bulbs of these things called stink horns. This was not only a waste of money but also time. Now I’m left with getting all the mulch out of my flower because obviously it’s contaminated. I am soooo disappointed with this product. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone even if it was free.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disaster! Do not buy. I bought this product to control weeds. We bought 125 bags of mulch and layed it down 3 inches thick. The problem is that there are weeds growing IN the mulch, not THROUGH the mulch. The mulch must have been infected with weed seeds. My area looks terrible. I am having more weeds than the area where I did not mulch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Got more weeds than before This is a disaster. I treated the ground. Covered heavy with Landscape Fabric. I have more weeds growing on top. Scotts tell me to treat with roundup. I thought I purchased a product to avoid this. Then I'm told the mulch is made with compost. Then they should treat it before selling it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Junk , bought this because it was Scott’s, I though it would be good but I was wrong. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Full of Garbage! Plastic, rubber, broken glass! Just bought 15 bags, every single one is filled with garbage, including cloth, plastic, rubber hoses, plastic bags, and even a broken Xmas light. Disgusting. Step up your quality control! I have pics and videos I will be sharing all over social media. Horriable!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete fail I’m so unhappy. Spent a fortune on black mulch. Several bags were filled with white mold and now I’ve had a problem with giant mushroom mold clumps growing. The black has washed off after a couple months. I don’t think I will get Scott’s again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mold / mildew Bought about 30 bags or more with a few spare bags to fill spots that's settle. Less than a month later a completely unusable bag. This can't be healthy for gardens.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product was littered with various trash Rated a "1" because stuff you buy to spread over your garden and yard shouldn't have trash in it. I have purchased this mulch yearly for a few years, and maybe I just didn't pay enough attention, but this last batch has turned me off to Scotts. The mulch itself is kind of to be expected: ground up wood - supposedly not pallets, a few larger chunks (maybe this batch more shredded - for the good - than some bags in the past. But seriously, I spent more time picking through the mulch to find the included trash than I did spreading it. (Scotts should at least the trash in the ingredients.) Nothing like polluting your own yard and garden. It makes you wonder what else - chemicals, toxins, etc - might be lurking therein. Scotts either isn't paying attention to its wood source or its quality control is just lacking, or both. So much for name brands. I tried to leave pictures, but the review form wouldn't let me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very bad quality Bought the black mulch. First of all, they’re giving you less for a higher price. The mulch is full of while pieces that I was told was mold. It also stinks like manure. Had to shut Al, our windows so we didn’t have to smell it. Will not purchase this brand again!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money. Very disappointed in Scotts Earthgro mulch - very poor quality. Many large chunks that had to be pick out, and mold in some bags. Thought we could rely on Scott’s for a decent product but guess that’s not the case. Will not be buying Scott’s products. Also surprised Hime Depot would sell such a poor product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Black Color Guard Mulch I bought 60 bags of the Black mulch from Home Depot, put it down and in two weeks, the color was faded. I got on the Sott's website and began reading the reviews, more dissatisfied reviews than favorable. In the company response it says to call the company number. I did, The female who took the call told me: "wait a couple of weeks the color will return" Well that was a shocking comment. It has been a couple weeks only alot more faded. I have often purchased Scott's products. I am not a happy customer!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disgusted Purchased 15 bags of brown mulch from Home Depot to use in my landscaping. This is the worst product ever produced. Every bag had multiple large chunks and rocks which had to be removed to make the landscaping look somewhat presentable. This is not the first time that Scott's mulch has been a disappointment. I continue to give the company the benefit of the doubt but will never purchase this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is terrible mulch and a rip off I usually only give good reviews, but I am extremely disappointed in this product. I was going to get the Home Depot brand of mulch, and decided to splurge and pay more for what I thought was a better product. However, this is faded and not even red mulch as it is mostly brown. It had large pieces in it which I had to take out and throw away. The worst part is that I always buy 20 bags and when I spread this mulch, I was 25% short and one whole side of my house didn't have mulch. When I looked at the bags, each bag only had 1.5 cubic feet instead of the advertised 2 cubic feet. Not only did I pay more but I got 25% less. I felt so ripped off. It was too late to return but I went back to Home Depot and bought their brand which was much nicer mulch, much brighter color, much less cost, and had a full 2 cubic feet of mulch per bag. I should have read these awful reviews before buying this awful Earthgro by Scotts brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So much plastic and other foreign objects! I bought 15 bags of mulch and have found so much plastic, other weird debris, and even a bent piece of metal. Tonight I found a full Barbie shoe completely in tact. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. Super disappointed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Color gone almost instantly I purchased 14 bags of black mulch with a 1-year color guarantee, but the color didn't even last one night. I spread several bags one evening and planned to finish the rest the following morning. By then, the color difference was drastic. After just one more night, all the mulch is faded and partially brown.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Debris I bought 460 bags at Home Depot while they were on sale over Memorial Day. Every bag I've laid thus far (nearly half) has had random debris in it. Plastic pieces, parts of pipe, wrappers, electrical wire and rocks.... random litter everywhere! I've spent hours trying to clean it up. Some bags have had mold growth which I can understand due to exposures during transport but concerns me for my health as I have asthma. I'm so utterly disappointed in this product. I don't have the transport to return the remaining bags. What do I do now?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The product sucks turned grey in three days! I went with a company I knew Scott’s everyone has heard of them and sounds to be reputable company. However that are the worst company to deal with. Their color guarantee of one year is a game of hide and seek. I called and spoke to one person over the phone who explained to me what needed to be done for a refund without a receipt. I did what was asked and sent photos to her through an email she sent me. I responded to her and expected to hear back but a new rep emailed me and asked for everything all over again. I responded with photos again only the hear back from a new rep. I have now responded back and forth with 7 reps with NO solution to the guarantee!! They waste your time playing e-mail games until you give up on them. I will never use a Scott’s product again. They suck and so does thier product and guarantee!! Do not deal with them and Home Depot was of no help regarding this manner. They said we don’t guarantee the product go through the manufacturer. Horrible company to deal with

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A lost loyal customer! I purchased 60 bags, for 10 days it looked great, after 2 rains it has lost it color (black) I had not read the reviews as I have often purchased Scott's products, In most reviews it says: if an issue call the company number... Well I called the female who took the call told me wait a few weeks and the color will come back! Really, and I am suppose to believe that!?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Red is Brown | Brown is Black On 5.17.24, Purchased (5) bags of Brown, which looks Black and (9) bags of Red, those red bags I don't have an issue with as shown in photos, they actually are Red. Second trip to Home Depot, 5.25.24, I purchased (2) bags of Brown which look black and (8) bags of Red which clearly is Brown. This looks horrible and I want a full refund or replacement. Don't want to hear about different manufacturing locations. I purchased at the same Home Depot, your people obviously placed the wrong labeled bags in the filling machinery. The Home Depot site and this site has the same completely unsatisfied customer reviews regarding the exact same issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Different shades I bought 20 bags from the same pile at local hardware store. Bags had different shades of brown, some with huge chunks in them. Very disappointed - why wouldn't they all be the same shade of brown?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed Customer During the Memorial day weekend, I bought 50 bags of Earthgro mulch from the Home Depot 355 Haggerty Rd, Commerce Charter Twp, MI 48390. It smelled so bad that I had to wear a mask to put it down; the smell is still terrible after two weeks. I will never buy mulch from Scott’s again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rotten toxic mulch Smell is horrendous after one week!!! Full of large sticks and chunks of moldy wood. After research I’m told the mulch is toxic and will kill my plants. Shame on Scott’s for putting their name on this garbage

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in 2024 Got 130 bags in my driveway. This years mulch, shredded and terrible, a step back in quality. Trying to decide if I should return it and buy an alternate brand or take the “L”, concede to corp greed. Was trying to add images, the site did not allow me to add photos of the way in which it comes this year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Color Disadvantage Extremely disappointed in this mulch. I purchased 125 bags during a Home Depot sale, and two days after putting it out, we had some rain. Now it's dark chocolate, not black mulch. The product specs claim Color Advantage helps maintain color for up to 12 months, but it didn't last two day. In past years, I've used Vigoro Black Wood Mulch, which was a better product all around.
