How to Use

  1. Get Ready. Before seeding, mow at the lowest setting and bag the clippings. Rake to remove debris, dead grass, and loosen the soil, ensuring seed-to-soil contact.
  2. Apply. Pour the product into your Scotts® spreader and set the dial to the appropriate setting. For an even application, walk at a steady pace slightly overlapping each pass. Scotts® Broadcast/Rotary Spreader: 2; Scotts® Drop Spreader: 3-1/2; Scotts® Wizz® Spreader: 3-1/2; Scotts® Hand-Held Spreaders: 3; Overseeding coverage: 1,000 sq. ft.
  3. Rake. Lightly rake the seed into the soil to ensure the seed is slightly covered by the soil.
  4. Water. Lightly water the seeded area so the soil surface is moist. Water two times each day to keep the soil surface wet for the first 2 weeks. Clover will begin to grow in 5-7 days. Once your clover is fully established, mow to desired height. To self-fertilize, return the clippings to your lawn for natural feeding.

Plant this clover seed in the spring or fall when the daily air temperature in your city is consistently between 60°F and 75°F for two weeks.

Watering Tips

  • Lightly water the seeded area so the soil surface is moist. Water two times each day to keep soil surface wet for the first 2 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is clover better than a grass lawn?

Whether clover or grass is better depends on your lawn goals. Clover is naturally self-fertilizing (it converts nitrogen in the air to nitrogen fertilizer) and requires less mowing, making it a low-maintenance alternative to grass.

Yes, you can mow clover, but you don't have to! Clover is a low-growing ground clover, so you can leave it natural. If you prefer a cleaner look, give it a mow a few times a year. Wait until clover is fully established before mowing.

Yes! Clover's ability to self-fertilize can actually help your turf grasses, too. Plus, your green space will have a unique look.

This grass seed is safe for use around people and pets when used as directed. Green space is safe to re-enter immediately after application.
